Making A Difference

How do we want to make a difference?

In the UK, very few doctors have combined skills in both menopause and clinical sexology – yet the number of women who would benefit from access to support in this area is huge.

We would like to use these skills to develop links to charities and underserved populations, as well as promoting education about menopause and healthy sexuality for all.

We would like to be held accountable for our work in the community and so have signed up for B Corp accreditation.

Thank you so much for today. It was an excellent workshop; the content was appropriate, and your vast knowledge brought it all to life. I loved how everyone opened up and interacted, which does not always happen. You have such a natural warmth that I feel people felt safe to speak about their personal stories. I'm really excited to see how we develop this work and again am so grateful that you reached out to us.

What is a B Corp?

B Corp stands for Benefit Corporation – it is a change in the legal status of the company that embeds considering the needs of the stakeholder (in our case, menopausal women) in everything we do: our accessibility, our impact on the community, and our contribution to the wider education of both women and their health professionals in under-resourced areas.

It has strict criteria, and many companies applying for B Corp status will not make the mark. It takes at least a year of being open to apply for the B Corp assessment – until then, we are building our business to ensure we achieve their high standards.

It means we have to act responsibly towards the needs of our stakeholders, rather than simply existing to make a profit.

It is a core founding value of our business.

What are we doing as part of this?

We aim to offer our time for free to organisations helping women who would otherwise struggle to access our specialist knowledge. What we have done so far:
  • We regularly work with Maggies – a large UK Charity offering support to individuals living with cancer, where we attend monthly online and face-to-face workshops for women.
  • We have helped Maggies to develop Intimacy Workshops and have been researching where we can improve care in this area. We have extended our reach to give similar support to Target Ovarian and Bladder Cancer UK.
  • We have also offered our time to organisations such as Endometriosis Southwest in the form of a free workshop about how menopause is impacted by endometriosis.
  • We have also given our time to the Survivors Trust who are developing a programme to teach Trauma Informed Practice to health professionals, speaking about how to be trauma informed when examining women.
  • We have also participated in events designed to raise knowledge of this subject area – such as talks for the Vulval Pain Society and other similar organisations.

How to get in touch if you’re a charity and you want us to offer our time to you?

We are particularly interested in working with charities working with cancer survivors. We both have a background in oncology/palliative medicine, and have a particular interest in oncosexology. We are very aware of the need for specialist menopause and sexological input for these individuals.

We are also keen to work with different ethnic minority groups who may not be well served by other organisations. As doctors trained on a GSRD-aware course, we would also welcome enquiries from charities supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

If you would like us to help the individuals you serve, please do reach out.

A note on our language

Throughout this website, we use the term women when describing people who experience hormonal symptoms. However, we acknowledge not only those who identify as women require access to menopause and hormone health information. For example, some trans men, non-binary people, intersex people or people with variations in sex characteristics may also experience menopausal symptoms and PMS/PME or PMDD, and we warmly welcome everyone who needs this support in our clinic.
