Angela and I were on zoom until late again last night, working on how we present some of the findings from our Maggie’s Menopause Workshop work at the International Menopause Society conference in Lisbon next month.
I’d had an interview that morning and had been asked why, when our approach is so different to what is out there, our names weren’t higher up the list of well-known clinics and doctors.
It was an interesting question. Angela and I founded Spiced Pear Health as a vehicle to help us do two things:
Firstly, to provide a service which is sorely needed and hard to find. We are both trained in menopause, PMDD AND sexual problems, and we knew that it was difficult to get high-quality, holistic advice from someone who could look at body, mind and relationship in coming up with solutions.
The second thing we wanted to do was CHANGE things. We both have backgrounds in cancer medicine and an interest in trauma. We wanted to use our platform, and private clinic to allow us to give away our skills for free to those who have too little access to them. So far, we have worked with a number of third-sector organisations – and in particular, with Maggies, to roll out better information and support to women who have treatment-induced menopause. We have big plans to scale this work up: watch this space.
This all gives us huge pride and satisfaction in what we are doing – but it does mean we don’t always spend enough time promoting our clinic more widely, or making ourselves more visible. We fill our appointments largely through word of mouth. Our practice speaks for itself: when they have seen us, people recommend us to their friends. We are proud of our ethics and proud of the impact we are having.

Throughout this website, we use the term women when describing people who experience hormonal symptoms. However, we acknowledge not only those who identify as women require access to menopause and hormone health information. For example, some trans men, non-binary people, intersex people or people with variations in sex characteristics may also experience menopausal symptoms and PMS/PME or PMDD, and we warmly welcome everyone who needs this support in our clinic.
